Lista över aktivister som fängslats i samband med hockey-VM

Den belarusiska (vitryska) människorättsorganisationen Vjasna uppdaterar regelbundet sin förteckning över demokratiaktivister som gripits inför ishockey-VM och alltså nu sitter fängslade medan hockeyspelarna skrinnar omkring på isen. Så här såg situationen ut efter den 8 maj, det vill säga igår:

1.       Zmicer Dashkevich – detained on 24.04.2014, sentenced to 25 days of arrest;
2.       Aliaksandr Frantskevich – detained on 25.04.2014, sentenced to 25 days of arrest;
3.       Yury Rubtsou – detained on 26.04.2014, sentenced to 25 days of arrest;
4.       Leanid Smouzh – detained on 26.04.2014, sentenced to 20 days of arrest;
5.       Mikalai Kolas – detained on 26.04.2014, sentenced to 15 days of arrest;
6.       Dzianis Karnou – detained on 26.04.2014, sentenced to 20 days of arrest;
7.       Aliaksandr Kurbatski – detained on 26.04.2014, sentenced to 20 days of arrest;
8.       Aliaksandr Stukin – detained on 26.04.2014, sentenced to 20 days of arrest;
9.       Valeryi Tamilin – detained on 26.04.2014, sentenced to 20 days of arrest;
10.    Uladzimir Novikau – detained on 05.05.2014, sentenced to 15 days of arrest;
11.    Andrus Tsianiuta – detained on 05.05.2014, sentenced to 10 days of arrest in Homel;
12.    Mikola Dziemidzienka – detained on 05.05.2014, sentenced to 20 days of arrest;
13.    Mihas Muski – detained on 05.05.2014, sentenced to 20 days of arrest;
14.    Illia Valavik – detained on 06.05.2014, sentenced to 10 days of arrest;
15.    Siarhei Pazniak – detained on 06.05.2014, sentenced to 10 days of arrest;

In general, the activists are being detained on purely fabricated, similar grounds such as “disorderly conduct” and “disobedience to the law-enforcement officials”. The courts conduct administrative trial proceedings formalistically, implicitly trust the law-enforcement officials and don’t take account of the evidence provided by the defense.
